Tampa Riverwalk

Sunshine Skyway Bridge

Another structure that has historical importance is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge also known as simply the Skyway. With a history of tragic events, the Skyway stands tall today as an important landmark and symbol of Florida. The bridge has been plagued with collisions with tankers like Capricorn and the US Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn and finally with the freighter vessel MV Summit Venture that caused a structural collapse.

Lettuce Lake Regional Park

Part of Hillsborough County, this park is one of the most visited parks in Tampa, Florida. The park spans an area of about 240 acres and has the Hillsborough River running through it. The park also has The Audubon Resource Center which houses natural historical exhibits and wildlife that is native to this county.

The park is filled with beautiful fountains, a large playground and several pavilions and sculptures to ensure the park is scenic and happening. This park is adjacent to both the Tampa Museum of Art and Glazier Children’s Museum. This park has regular parities and office functions being hosted and even has music concerts and food festivals being held regularly. Glazer Children’s Museum

Another amazing and fun place to visit with families and kids is the Glazier Children’s Museum which is located in downtown Tampa. The museum was established in 1986 and spans an area of about 53,000 square feet and is located alongside the Tampa Riverwalk. This museum aims to fuel children’s imagination with their approximate 170 interactive exhibits.

ZooTampa at Lowry Park

This zoo in Tampa was formerly known as Lowry Park Zoo and was voted as the number 1 Family friendly zoo in the whole of US in 2009. The zoo spans an area of about 65 acres and attracts close to a million visitors each year. The numbers are nothing to be shocked at considering that they have approximately 1300 animals on show.

The zoo also serves as a center for conserving endangered wildlife that is both local and internationally. The Florida Aquarium

This aquarium here in downtown Tampa spans an area of about 250,000 square feet and is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1995. The Florida Aquarium is home to around 7000 aquatic plants and animals from around the globe. The main exhibits here include a simulated beach, a coral reef community housed in a large tank and a simulated wetland.

The Florida Aquarium has a program called Aquatots that is tailored towards the younger kids aged 3-5 with activities like a tour of the aquarium. Big Cat Rescue

As fun and exciting as it is to see animals in all their glory, it is also important see them at their lower points in life. The Big Cat Rescue is an animal sanctuary that is aimed at only rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and/or injured cats. Big Cat Rescue has more than 20 big cats and close to 70 small cats in their facility.

The center was started in 1992 and spans an area of 67 acres making it an apt center for such a sanctuary. Big Cat Rescue functions as a non-profit organization and the center is an amazing experience that gives an insight into lives of the feline species that are injured and left on the streets with no one to look after. The facility provides tours for student groups on request making it all the more useful and fun at the same time.

Dinosaur World

Another interesting and fun thing to do in Tampa would be to visit Dinosaur World to give yourself a prehistorical adventure experience. The kids are sure to have a blast and this is great for families in general. This dinosaur themed park has around 150 dinosaurs that are scaled to real life which was created by the park’s owner, Christer Svensson.

The park also features picnic spots and playgrounds for small children making this an ideal family outing experience. One of the main attractions here is the Fossil Dig which is popular among kids.  Children are allowed to dig in search for fossils and are allowed to take home three of their most favorite among everything they find during the digging. There is also an Exploration Cave Show, Triviasaurus Rex Game Show and an Animatronic Dinosaur Display ti name a few of the featured highlights here at Dinosaur World. This park is one of three such parks of which the remaining two are located in Kentucky and Texas.

Busch Gardens

Located in Tampa and spanning an area of 335 acres the park is a sister theme park of Adventure Island that is also located here in Tampa, Florida. The park’s main attractions are the Cobra’s Curse which is a family spin coaster, Tigris, a launch coaster, Falcon’s Fury, a 335 foot drop tower, Sheikra, a 200 foot floorless roller coaster and Congo River Rapids to name just a few of the numerous thrilling rides.

Adventure Island

This part is also part of SeaWorld Entertainment similar to Busch Gardens and is even located close the other park, more specifically on the same street as that of Busch Gardens. The water park covers an area of about 30 acres and is the largest water park here in Tampa. The park has a number of rides, places for dining and various other miscellaneous attractions that make this place a fun place to visit with families and kids in Tampa. The park was opened in 1980 and has come a long way since then.

Adventure Island has 2 pools and approximately 10 water slides that vary in size and altitude. The main rides here in Adventure Island include Aruba Tuba, Wahoo Run, Water Moccasin, Riptide Rush and Caribbean Corkscrew to name a few. The main pools here include Endless Surf, Splash Attack and Paradise Lagoon. In case the rides work up an appetite, have no fear, since Adventure Island has various places to eat from. Few of the crowd favorites are Surfside Café, Gulf Scream Ice-cream and Snack Attack.
